(Hawaiian measures are half of the actual faces of the waves) |
Sunday 01/11/04
6 to 8 feet surf with South winds !!
Surf dropped drastically from yesterday,
6 to 8 feet today coming from
North, Northwest direction with
South, Southwest winds, side onshore on the North Shore.
The International Bodyboarding
Association (IBA) World Super Tour (WST) final event:
The U$ 20,000 Rockstar Games Pipeline
Pro, presented by T-Mobile and Mike Stewart Science
was on with not so great, neither
near perfect surf at Pipeline.
There were decent rides until about
middle of the day when the winds really came and messy it all up.
Event and 2003 World Super Tour
Champion was Australian Damian King.
.
Second in the contest was Spencer
Skipper from Hawaii,
third was Portugal Ruy Ferreira
and forth was six times world champion Guilherme Tamega from Brazil.
The International Bodyboarding
Association (IBA) World Qualifying Tour (WQT) final event
should happen tomorrow or Wednesday,
the last day of the waiting period.
There are couple of extra large
swells on Hawaii's way,
one tomorrow reaching heights of
20 to 30 feet and
an even larger West, Northwest
swell is expected to arrive late Wednesday.
This swell is expected to peak
Thursday with surf heights above the high surf warning level of 25 feet.
Big surf and no doubt
The Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie
Aikau big wave event should be on stand by for the all week.
Stay tuned for updates and happenings!!!
The action at Pipeline:
Formed two times world champion,
South African Andre Botha
2002 GOB World Qualifying Tour Champion,
Nicolas Capdeville, France
Pipeline Master and legend, Hawaii's
own Mike Stewart
.
Ehukai had some clean off shore
waves most of the morning
Sunset had some good inside barrels,
but a bit disorganized
.
.

HAWAIIAN THOUGHTS:
"The climatological average
based on 1968-2002
for the first double overhead swell
on North Shores for the new season is September 17th (+/- 9 days).
For high surf levels (15 feet face),
the average is September 29th (+/- 12 days).
The first Waimea day (25+ face)
averages to November 11th (+/- 28 days)(Pat Caldwell)."
"No matter how we choose
to go into the water,
whether it is surfing big waves,
surfing small waves, sailing, canoeing or swimming.
It is important that we can enjoy
ourselves and find peace(Clyde Aikau)."
