Drama on the North Shore !!
Blustery, gusty 25 to 35 mph Southwest
winds, stronger in certain places,
literally blew everything out the
place
on the North Shore today and around
the island.
Electricity poles, more than one
hundred of them, trees, trash cans, everything was blown away.
All the business were closed from
Ted's Bakery all the way up to Dole Plantation passing by every door at
Haleiwa.
There was no electricity most of
the day to run any kind of business from food, bank, post offices and schools.
Surf was blown out big time, it
was even too hard to measure the size of the swell.
It was big for sure, buoys were
and are showing an extra large swell, but
very bad conditions with the straight
strong onshore winds.
Along the Kam Hwy around Pupukea
beach the trees fell on top of this car and onto the street,
knocking down all the electricity
and cable lines
.
Two fallen electricity poles in
front of Haleiwa beach park were one of the reasons
for stores to close their doors
today
Blown out fruit stand
Both ways to Wahiawa were closed
and North Shore residents
could not go up or down the hill
for about 10 hours
.
All kind of leafs were laying down
the streets
Surf was big time blown out

HAWAIIAN THOUGHTS:
"The climatological average
based on 1968-2002
for the first double overhead swell
on North Shores for the new season is September 17th (+/- 9 days).
For high surf levels (15 feet face),
the average is September 29th (+/- 12 days).
The first Waimea day (25+ face)
averages to November 11th (+/- 28 days)(Pat Caldwell)."
"No matter how we choose
to go into the water,
whether it is surfing big waves,
surfing small waves, sailing, canoeing or swimming.
It is important that we can enjoy
ourselves and find peace(Clyde Aikau)."
