Surf's up !!
Surf was pretty big today on the
North Shore,
8 to 12 feet waves, North, Northwest
swell, coming up as the day progressed.
The light South, Southwest wind
wasn't too bad, neither too good.
It was pretty sunny good part of
the morning, but
just before noon the weather
change and black clouds dominated for the rest of the day.
This swell should reach somewhere
around 15 feet tonight into tomorrow,
the buoy is up 15.1 feet, 17 seconds
on the 6 pm reading.
This swell will hold through Wednesday
gradually lowering through Thursday.
Another Northwest swell is expected
on Friday with surf above high surfing advisory levels.
The Tow In Cup at Jaws was
on stand by for this new swell at the end of this week, but
it was canceled today as they aren't
expecting this swell to be big enough.
No competition today for the $10,000.00
Ezekiel Faith Riding Pro
as only free surfing is allowed
on State and Federal holidays.
Check below for the first day of
competition standouts.

HAWAIIAN THOUGHTS:
"The climatological average
based on 1968-2002
for the first double overhead swell
on North Shores for the new season is September 17th (+/- 9 days).
For high surf levels (15 feet face),
the average is September 29th (+/- 12 days).
The first Waimea day (25+ face)
averages to November 11th (+/- 28 days)(Pat Caldwell)."
"No matter how we choose
to go into the water,
whether it is surfing big waves,
surfing small waves, sailing, canoeing or swimming.
It is important that we can enjoy
ourselves and find peace(Clyde Aikau)."
