Sunday 01/26/03
Aloha from Hawaii !!
Finally, there was good surf conditions
today on the North Shore
after on shore for so long.
Surf was in the 8 to 10 feet range
with light variable winds.
Pipeline had some barrels and way
too many bodyboarders.
In three days starts the waiting
period for the world bodyboarding and
bodysurfing contest.
This swell is pretty much over
and surf should drop to tomorrow.
There is another swell on advisory
levels expected for Tuesday.

Meanwhile on the West side...
The $120,000 Quiksilver Masters
World Surfing Championship
at Makaha, 20 January and
2 February 2003,
featuring 11 world champions, sharing
19 world titles between them,
got underway with excellent 6 to
10 feet waves.
In contrast to the past two
days of competition that were held in challenging,
large to extreme surf, today's
waves were perfect for high performance surfing(Young).
Defending Masters world champion
Gary Elkerton(Australia)
posted the first perfect 10 point
ride.
Rob Bain posted the highest
heat score of today's rounds with 17.5 points out of a possible 20. Tom
Curren (California) and Grand Masters competitor Shaun Tomson (South Africa)
were close behind on 17.25 points.
One day of competition remains
and it is scheduled to take place tomorrow, surf permitting.
