Monday 02/24/03
Surf's up and rising !!
Surf was as good and big as it gets
for the most popular spots on the North Shore today,
smaller in the morning 6 to 8 feet
rising to 10 to 12 feet around noon and picking up.
The $50,000 Hansen's Energy Pro,
Pipeline, 3 stars World Qualifying Series Event
got their final day of competition
underway and
it was breath-taking with life
threatening huge waves.
It was big and conditions were
epic with tradewinds.
It was local boy Jamie O'Brien
with his back side tube riding who took
the highest place at the podium
today among with a very young finalists.
Results:
1st. Jamie O'Brien (Haleiwa) $7,000
2nd. Bruce Irons (Hanalei, Kauai)
$3,500
3rd. Joel Centeio (Haleiwa) $2,500
4th. Jamie Sterling (Haleiwa) $2,000
This swell should hold on large
to tomorrow and there is a new large
swell expected on Friday.
