Monday 08/23/04
North Shore is going off.
North and West shores have
been bombed off season with awesome 4 to 6 feet waves for already two days.
Two low pressures on the North
Pacific will keep surf up for the North Shore for the entire week.
Another swell, right behind this
current one,
is expected to reinforce the surf
by Wednesday afternoon.
We had strong winds derived of
the tropical storm Estelle, East, Southeast of the Big Island but,
it has weakened over the
past 36 hours.
Very rare surfing for this time
of the year, August usually is the worst month on the Summer for any side
of the island.
Overall, with all these small swells
we had these past few months,
I consider this Summer one of the
best ones ever.
Sunset had solid 6 feet waves today
Windsurfing was going off
Pipeline had lots of sand but, it
showed some good rideable waves

Newly crowned World Longboard Champion
Joel Tudor (La Jolla, CA) and ëQueen of Queensí Pinoi Makalena defeated
off the nationís top professional longboarders to post parallel victories
in the Converse Hawaiian Open, held at Queens, Waikiki.
Celebrating Duke Kahanamoku birthday,
ninety two years after winning his first Olympic swimming gold medal in
Stockholm, Hawaii's greatest ever athlete, was center stage again this
weekend of celebrations in his honor.
Because, Kahanamoku became better
known for introducing the world to the sport of surfing, it was only fitting
that a traditional longboard contest was the opening event of the 2004
Duke's Ho'olaule'a.
Both won $4,000 for their performances.
Tudor also took home an additional $1,000 for winning the Surf N Sea Nose
Riding division, clocking up 14.1 seconds of nose riding time over two
waves.
