The Vans Hawaiian Pro was on with awesome conditions.

The first jewel of the 2004 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing,
the six star prime WQS Vans Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa kicked off
with awesome conditions at Haleiwa, 4 to 6 feet waves, light winds and sunny skies.
The highlight performance for the first day was the Vans Hawaiian Pro champion in 1991:
Tom Curren.

Now 40 years of age, the three time world champion (1985, 86 and 90) reached his first final at Haleiwa in 1981
and today his performing was trademark Curren style: poised, effortless, and smooth.
He has received a wild card in all three of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing events
on the North Shore of Oahu this winter.
Local surfer Mikala Jones was the top Hawaii surfer.
There will be three more days and a half of competition and the
waiting period runs from November 12th through Wednesday November 24th.
