Friday 11/26/04
First day of the O'neill World
Cup of Surfing with epic conditions.
The second jewel of the BLESSED
Vans Triple Crown of Surfing,
the 30th anniversary O'Neill World
Cup of Surfing,
got under way with excellent conditions
today at Sunset beach.
This is about as perfect as the
conditions can get with 6 to 8 feet,
Northwest swell, light tradewinds
and sunny skies.
Highlight of the day was,
coming back from a knee injury
during recent competition in Brazil, Jamie O'Brien (Haw) with 16.66.
Second best score went to Fabio
Gouveia (Brz) 15.66.
Also, advancing to round three
with heat wins included Bernardo Pigmeu (Brazil) 3rd place at the Haleiwa
event,
Travis Logie (South Africa), Ben
Bourgeois (USA), Australians Daniel Ross and Kirk Flintoff, and
Hawaii's own Ross Williams and
Brian Pacheco.
Surf should hold pretty much at
the same size and conditions to tomorrow and
we should have the second day of
the competition starting at 8 am.
