Friday 11/28/03
Aloha Friday with large surf !!!
Surf was up today with 10 to 15
feet North, Northeast swell and awesome glassy conditions
with the return of the tradewinds.
The men's Rip Curl Cup at Sunset
Beach was on BIG TIME today.
In the morning Sunset was as good
and as big as it gets, in the afternoon the trials surfers were competing
mostly
against the ocean not against each
other...
Many sets were washing through,
but
there were lots of good waves between
them.
Excellent performance from tahitian
Manoa Drollet.
He had the best waves of the day
with 9.50 and
9.1, huge barrels on the inside
bowl. IORANA Manoa !!!
Just to be in the final,
the four lucky men would be already
classified for the Rip Curl Cup main event.
Joel Centeio from Hawaii took the
first place and the best score of the event: 14.84 out of 20 possible.
Manoa Drollet, Tahiti, was second,
Sean Moody, Hawaii was third and
Love Hodel, Hawaii, forth.
The first day of the main event
will sure be tomorrow with some excellent surf being expected foe Sunset.
See you out there !!!

"The climatological average
based on 1968-2002
for the first double overhead swell
on North Shores for the new season is September 17th (+/- 9 days).
For high surf levels (15 feet face),
the average is September 29th (+/- 12 days).
The first Waimea day (25+ face)
averages to November 11th (+/- 28 days)(Pat Caldwell)."
"No matter how we choose
to go into the water,
whether it is surfing big waves,
surfing small waves, sailing, canoeing or swimming.
It is important that we can enjoy
ourselves and find peace(Clyde Aikau)."
