Paterson defeat Irons at Sunset !!
Aloha everyone!!
Awesome 8 to 12 feet surf coming
from North, Northwest direction and tradewinds for
the US$250.000 Rip Curl Cup at
Sunset Beach final day.
Australian Jake Paterson won the
Rip Curl Cup final
with a spectacular performance
and the best score of the all event: 17.64 out of 20 possible points.
With 9.07 and 8.57 Paterson kept
the advantage all final long from the second place Hawaii's Andy Irons
even with Irons scoring a perfect
10 in a gigantic, long and deep outside barrel and another good wave of
7.17.
Shane Dorian, Hawaii, ended in
3rd and Taj Burrow, Australia 4th.
Kelly Slater, Florida, losing on
the round 3, placing 17th overall,
still leading the ASP 2003 rankings
by 96 points ahead of current world champion Irons.
The final event of the Triple Crown
of Surfing and
ASP World Classic Tour (WCT) should
bring the best competition to the best venue in Hawaii, Pipeline
with both Slater and Irons fighting
head to head for the 2003 ASP world Championship title.

"The climatological average
based on 1968-2002
for the first double overhead swell
on North Shores for the new season is September 17th (+/- 9 days).
For high surf levels (15 feet face),
the average is September 29th (+/- 12 days).
The first Waimea day (25+ face)
averages to November 11th (+/- 28 days)(Pat Caldwell)."
"No matter how we choose
to go into the water,
whether it is surfing big waves,
surfing small waves, sailing, canoeing or swimming.
It is important that we can enjoy
ourselves and find peace(Clyde Aikau)."
