Massive surf pounding the North Shore !!

Surf was 6 feet today in the morning, but as the day progressed
it came up to heights of 15 feet plus by early in the afternoon.
The conditions went from good, glassy with light tradewinds to
junky North winds and strong currents,
back again glassy with light trades, but by then
the swell was way to big for Pipeline and the biggest sets were washing through.
The third leg and final stop of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing:
the Xbox Gerry Lopez Pipeline Masters was on most of the morning,
had a stand by around lunch time when the bad winds started and went back on when the conditions improved around 2 pm.
By the end of the second day of competition
there were 11 heats finished of the first round of the main event,
many broken boards and the highlight of the day was
six time world champion and a five time Pipeline event winner
Kelly Slater (USA) with the highest score in two waves: 14.5.

This swell is suppose to reach its peak tonight through tomorrow
and buoy # 51001 at 7 pm was 20 feet, 20 seconds.

It must be one of the most consistent Hawaiian Winter season ever...

By 3 pm there were consistently massive sets on the third reef

The crowd was one of the biggest I have ever seen in thirteen years I have been here

 

Meanwhile Sunset had some surfable rides between the biggest sets
.

The third day of the Pipe Master could be happening tomorrow, but
 I think it is more for the "Eddie" than for the "Gerry".
We shall wait and see.
