Andy Irons took it all !!!
With 3 to 5 feet surf coming from
North, Northeast, Pipeline was inexistent today.
The Xbox Gerry Lopez Pipeline Master,
final event of the Triple Crown
of Surfing and last event of the ASP world tour
was all about a long sandbar toward
to Back Door.
Hawaii's Andy Irons did it
again,
winning the three most important
awards in the sport:
the Xbox Gerry Lopez Pipeline Masters,
the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing title
and the Association of Surfing
Professionals world title.
His payoff was a $30,000 Xbox winner's
check, a $7,500 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing bonus
and a second consecutive world
crown.
He is the only surfer to ever win
all three titles two years in a row.
Australians Joel Parkinson was
second and Phil MacDonald third.
Six times world champion and six
times Pipeline master champion Kelly Slater was forth,
unfortunately there weren't enough
waves in the final for a very good competition...

Andy Irons
.
Joel Parkinson
This barrel on the semi final was one of the highest scores of the
event and one of the only rides all day to Pipeline ,
I swear he is in there...
.
Phillip MacDonald
Kelly Slater
.
Some good moments throughout the event:
WQS(World Qualifying Series) world
Champion, Brazil's Neco Padaratz
.
Nice view from the judges tower,
but
I think it was not good enough
to judge the Back Door waves
There was lots of current going
towards OTW,
all the competitors had to run
on the beach after a long ride
Brother Bruce Irons had a good performance
and finished 5th
Equal 5th Luke Hitchings, Australian
power
Dean Morrison, Australia
First time a hawaiian surf girl
win the Triple Crown Championship:
Keala Kennelly, Hawaii
Much mahalo for everybody that worked
so hard to make all this happen.
Aloha and
HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!!

HAWAIIAN THOUGHTS:
"The climatological average
based on 1968-2002
for the first double overhead swell
on North Shores for the new season is September 17th (+/- 9 days).
For high surf levels (15 feet face),
the average is September 29th (+/- 12 days).
The first Waimea day (25+ face)
averages to November 11th (+/- 28 days)(Pat Caldwell)."
"No matter how we choose
to go into the water,
whether it is surfing big waves,
surfing small waves, sailing, canoeing or swimming.
It is important that we can enjoy
ourselves and find peace(Clyde Aikau)."
