Wild card takes Pipeline Master !

Much smaller surf today at Pipeline for the Rip Curl Pipeline Master.
Still some good waves on the 4 to 6 feet range, nice barrels for both directions and light winds.

Local wildcard Jamie O'Brien, 21, was first in an all hawaiian final taking US$30,000.

 

Sunny Garcia, 34, not only finished in second with US$16,000 but
became history with a record of 6 Triple Crown titles and a bonus of US$10,000, plus a Ford Ranger Truck.

 

Kalani Robb finished in third in his first Pipeline final ever and
ensured his re qualification for the WCT 2005.

 

2001 Pipeline Master Bruce Irons finished fourth.
Despite having won the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational earlier this week
he required at least a fifth placing at Pipe to ensure his re qualification for the 2005 WCT.
Did and well done posting two tens out of five in the whole event.

 

Paulo Moura, Brazil, was the only non american in the top 8 finishers and
with an awesome performance in the all event finished in 5th.

 

Cory Lopez, USA, finished equal 5th on the semis ahead of Kelly Slater for 0.07

 

Tim Curran, USA, scored one of the perfect ten at the semis and finished equal 7th

Six times world champion and a five time Pipeline Master, Kelly Slater, USA, had two tens today
to finished in equal 7th
