Finally the first day of the T & C Women Pipeline Pro was under way!!

After 12 days of waiting, the women finally got in the water.
There was three days of the waiting period for two full days of contest and
contest organizers had a wise decision to run the first day today in a small 1 to 2 feet surf mostly Back Door with very few rideable Pipeline, but
having the chance to pick the best day within the next couple of days for the final day.
  Despite the stormy weather and small surf conditions, the women made the best of what they got.
Last year’s shortboard champion, Alana Blanchard advanced through the first round along with fellow Kauai standout, Bethany Hamilton.
Top seeded Holly Beck’s aggressive approach paid off with a spot in the quarterfinals.
Tony Volkswagon team rider, Leah Dawson and Hawaiian Coral Gonzales also advance to the shortboard quarterfinals as well as the longboard finals.
However, the buzz on the beach was Australia’s Nicola Atheron’s perfect ten wave.
In the bodyboarding division plenty rolls were pulled off in the quick Back Door waves.
Brazil's Leila Alli made a come back after her newly born baby, Jasmine.
Also surfing well today were Japan’s Noriko Kawagoe, Hawaii's Delorie Manus, Lindsey Yasui and Monica Dell'Amore from California.
Big news for the bodyboarders is that the Association of Women’s Bodyboarding (AWB),
a local bodyboarding organization is arranging for The Don and Josie Over fund
to donate an additional $1000 to the prize purse for this year’s bodyboarding division.
Don and Josie Over are wonderful people and philanthropists who help many organizations in Hawaii to reach their dreams.
They would be proud to see how these female bodyboarders have set the stage for today’s T&C Surf Women’s Pipeline Pro since pioneering their women’s event at Pipeline in 1990.
A new North, Northwest swell is filling in tomorrow into Tuesday and
surf should come up reaching 4 to 6 feet make the final day a very exciting one after all this waiting for better surf and weather.
