Shark won the Bodyboarding final !!

I have competed in all 17 Pipeline contests since 1990, have seen a lot of things happen, but
this one was definitely the craziest ever.
Starting with the worst weather I have ever seen in Hawaii and for the longest time:
it has been pouring rain twice a week, for the last three weeks and we are almost sinking.
The North and East of Oahu is flooding and the ocean water is brown.
In Kauai today a land slide killed 7 people and isolated another hundreds because torrential non-stop rain.
As far as surfing, this year was the smallest and junkiest conditions (it has been really bad since February 15th)
and we have to start to run different days of contest for the surfing and bodyboarding divisions.
Last, but not LEAST, we have four Pipeline Bodyboarding Champions this year:
 a pair of sharks showed up half way on the bodyboarding final and after "bust" some radical manuvers beside the finalists,
they were first spotted by Lilly Pollard, Australia, which
abandoned the heat refusing to go out followed by the other three finalists: Japan's Aoi Koike and Moe Watanabe and Mandy Zieren, Australia.
The final was cancelled and the girls were all safe, but sharking, I mean shaking.
I think this is the first time I didn't really got upset for not making to the finals needing so little points.
Despite all this drama, the podium showed clearly the reality of the world women bodyboarding at this moment:
lots of support, sponsor and a strong local tour in Japan and Australia.

Mahalo to Betty Deppolito, Caron, Faith , all the sponsors and everybody that put the event up this year.
You guys did a great job even with all the bad lucky we've got.

Japan's Aoi Koike and Moe Watanabe,
they will be sharing everything: equal 2.5 place, 200 points and $500 each.
5th- Catarina de Souza, Portugal and Claudia Ferrari, Hawaii
7th-Delori Manus, Hawaii and Chiaki Okuyama, Japan.

WHAT: T&C Surf Women's Pipeline Pro presented by Tony Volkswagon at the Tony Group Autoplex
WHEN: Waiting period, March 1 to 14, 2006 (held on best two - three days).
WHERE: PIPELINE surf break, Ehukai Beach Park, North Shore, Oahu.
WHO: Approximately 110 of the best female surfers and bodyboarders will take on Pipeline.
CONTEST SANCTIONING: Association of Surfing Professionals and International Bodyboarding
Association regional competition.
