THE WOMEN PIPELINE CONTEST WAS A BLESSING!!

BLESSED AT PIPE!!

As you may already know, we were not going to have the
19th year of the Pipeline contest for women bodyboarders this year.
After so much work and support of the AWB and Banzai Production,
the contest, a 2008 USBA national tour event, WAS A BLESSING.
It was unbelievable how many beautiful people were on the beach,
completing the perfect 4 to 6 feet glassy surf and sunny day,
picture perfect contest day at Pipe.

Only 32 women were able to make into the contest (we had 10+ alternates)
due to the extra 60 men fitted in the 96 original draw (another 50 men were left out of the contest).
In order to accomodate everyone,
we had heats of 15 minutes throughout the all event in both divisions (CRAZY),
with 20 minutes heats for semis & finals.

After great performances in earlier rounds from:
Jessica Becker Brazil, and Emma Roby, Australia, both finished equal 5th,
Pipeline master Aoi Koike, Japan, was on the mission to win this year and
with an outsatnding performance in the final
took home the $1000 price purse and 1000 points towards the 2008 USBA National rankings,

letting Rita Pires, Portugal, in 2nd,

Claudia Ferrari, Hawaii, 3rd

and Leila Alli, Brazil, 4th
